It all begins with a few basic sketches, which typically go through several drafts before the design is approved. A 3-D model is then made using CAD technology and is examined from every angle to ensure perfection.


Most of the top designers utilize similar tools and processes, but few of them have ten separate quality control stations as the jewelry goes from the page to reality. Simon G also alloys each piece of jewelry that is shipped from his studio with either 18K platinum and palladium or platinum and iridium. This expensive step gives his jewelry greater strength and durability, which is necessary for more intricate designs.


All diamonds are set by hand, this includes micro-set stones, which must be inserted and inspected with a microscope. Filigree, milgrain, beading, and engraving are also completed by hand.
