There’s much to see in this great big world of ours, and who better to see it with than the one you love? What better time to see it together than after you officially begin your life together as one? If you haven’t settled on a place for your honeymoon, and even if you have, this list is a great source of inspiration and could be key in helping you to decide the best place to honeymoon where you can see incredible sights, experience a unique occurrence or two, and pass the time living in the immense beauty of the world around you.

Seychelles

This beautiful collection of islands located in the Indian Ocean was thought to be the site of the actual Garden of Eden by English General and eccentric Charles Gordon, and over recent years has responded to the demand of an influx of tourists by opening new resorts and offering more ways for visitors to spend their time in paradise. Enchanted Island Resort is one of the latest of this new assortment of accommodation offerings, and is great for honeymooners looking for luxury and exclusivity.

The resort is found off the coast of the largest island that makes up the Seychelles, and consists of only 10 villas. Each villa comes equipped with an infinity pool, a waterside terrace, a walkway leading to the beach, and large bathtubs situated on their very own decks.

The resort was built sustainably with the surrounding environment in mind, that environment being one of the Seychelles’ stunning national marine parks, and that mindfulness translates into the activities available for guests as well, which include yoga, feasting on in house grown produce, a wellness spa with a minimalist menu of services, and water sports like snorkeling that allow you to see the wildlife below the surface. If you and your fiancé are more up for adventure than luxury, try a place like Frégate Island Private where special wildlife experiences are available. There are species located here that can’t be seen anywhere else in the world and that are critically endangered as well; from the giant tortoise to the giant beetle. Guests are invited to participate in conservation efforts that for many would be once in a lifetime experiences, and can be tailored to the personal interests of the guest.

Amalfi Coast

With its accessibility to stunning feats of nature such as the blue grotto, a cave that glows a luminescent blue, as well as smaller variations of the grotto that glow in colors like green and white, and islands like Positano where handmade leather goods can be procured by local artisans and fresh caught seafood is just about everywhere you turn, the Amalfi Coast is a great choice for a leisurely honeymoon. Your honeymoon memories will be full of picturesque landscapes, a luxe history of residents including Sophia Loren and Gianni Versace who have lived in the cliff-side homes that line the coast, and as previously mentioned lots of fresh seafood to be washed down with Italian wines.

One resort in the Amalfi Coast that comes highly recommended is the Monastero Santa Rosa, a former monastery that may be one of the best places you could stay during an Italian vacation. A functioning monastery bell announces the arrival of each guest, who is subsequently offered a selection of homegrown herbal teas along with a cool towel. As a word to the wise, Italian beaches can be startlingly hot for those who aren’t prepared.

Fresh fruit, decadent dessert foods, and of course the expected linens, can be found in all guests rooms, and room service can be ordered just about anywhere you are in the hotel.

Take in the view you’ll wish you could see everyday from the resort terrace, and unwind with the assistance of complimentary snacks offered to guests each after-noon. Santa Rosa sends its guests home with thoughtful gifts like dry pasta and a recipe from their skilled chef.

Maldives

Soneva Fushi in the Maldives, is another eco-friendly resort where guests can indulge and unwind on white sand beaches in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives consists of 1,190 coral islands and Soneva Fushi occupies one of them. This single island is home to private pools that consist of an island centered in the interior with a palm tree growing out of it.

In case you and your new spouse aren’t the swimming pool type, no matter how nice the pool may be, you can always spend time on your private beach area or outdoor deck tub.

The resort converts the surrounding seawater into purified bottled water that comes in reusable glass bottles. The Maldives are extraordinarily breathtaking, and in an effort to maintain this, the Soneva Fushi resort is committed to cutting CO2 emissions caused by the shipping of bottles from elsewhere, and also the pollution caused by the use of plastic bottles which has contributed to the massive landfill known as Garbage Island which floats near the Maldives’ capital island.

Bioluminescent waves can be seen on the shores each year in the month of December; a truly unique sight to see that the Maldives is famous four on an international level.

Paris

The lights, the sights, the shows, the food, and the shopping; Paris is a place that lives up to its legend and sprinkles a little magic into each and everyday spent there. We all know the destinations that every visitor to Paris must see, from the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, to the Moulin Rouge, and spending the earlier parts of a day at one of the many sidewalk cafes that are synonymous with the city is highly advisable for newly weds spending their vacation in the city of love.

Fresh ingredients are a staple in the fine dining scene of Paris, and the cocktail scene is booming as of late. There’s something for the lovers of the classic and the experimental when it comes to food and drink, and Saturne, which serves only chemical free wines, is a great place for a gin and tonic according to Fabien Lombardi, well know bartender and proprietor of L’entrée des Artistes Pigale.

If you’re planning on spending big, there’s no place like the Ritz Paris, which will soon be the home of the first Chanel Spa in the world.

South Africa

Make your honeymoon a true adventure by booking a safari in South Africa. Split your time between the game reserves, and cities like Capetown and former World Cup host city Johannesburg. This gives the two of you a chance to have a meal at a fine dining destination in the evening and spot lions, cheetahs, and leopards in the evening in a developed area where regional fears like that of malaria aren’t a threat.

If you’re not the safari types, you can still visit this corner of the world for seemingly endless views of the ocean and green landscape at luxury stay like the Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort pictured above.

Spain

Traveling along the both the Spanish and French routes of the Camino de Santiago is a chance to see and live in a way many of us never will at the beginning of your new life with your spouse. While this walk is taken as a religious pilgrimage by some, many come here for the sake of adventure, finding something new in both the outside and inside, and traveling in a way that most modern day people won’t in this day and age.

Hiking along this route provides newlyweds the chance for a diverse honeymoon, with opportunities for stopping off in the French countryside or bigger cities like, of course, Paris. From Paris, a short trip to Morocco can also be booked where the two of you might experience lavish nightlife, an exotic desert campout and camel ride, or both!

The American Lakes

You don’t have to venture across the globe for a scenic honeymoon. Many of the lakes across the good old USA are lined with Hamptons reminiscent lake houses, and of course there is always the Hamptons. For those of you looking for options outside of the Manhattanite staple, consider locations such as the Lake Austin Spa Resort for morning yoga, massages, and wine tastings, Jenny Lake Lodge in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park for meals prepared with seasonally selected ingredients, and a luxury twist on life in the mountains, or the Emerald Lake Lodge in British Columbia for outdoor activity in the great outdoors that changes with the season.
