Healthy Wedding Menus

It is true that most guests do not come to weddings to eat, but rather, to celebrate your marriage with you and your family. However, it has become customary to celebrate with a meal of some sort. Though the food does not have to be the main attraction, it should be good, and preferably healthy. Many people these days are health conscious. Having a delicious yet healthy menu will please most of your guests since they won’t have to avoid eating or cheat on their diets in order to be present at your wedding. Here are some ideas for healthy wedding menus.

Wedding Hors D’oeuvres

There’s nothing quite like those tasty finger foods served at weddings and dinner parties. However, many of those hors d’oeuvres are quite unhealthy. Instead of removing the treats from your menu entirely, simply replace them with healthier alternatives. These can be various vegetables cut into beautiful shapes, grilled vegetable skewers, small pieces of grilled or broiled fish, and pure fruit cocktails.

Wedding Appetizers

Any meal consisting of an appetizer should be carefully planned. A person needs only so much food, and so, an appetizer should not be heavy or fattening. A green, leafy salad is an excellent choice, with a side of light and healthy dressing. Another option is smoked salmon with yams. Small pieces of turkey breast or chicken can work as well.

Wedding Entrees

The heart of the meal is the entrée, so you need to get it right. You don’t want to leave your guests hungry, but at the same time, you don’t want them feeling overstuffed and upset that they let themselves ago. A perfect compromise is one of the following dishes: free-range chicken served with seasonal vegetables, salmon served with asparagus, a tofu dish (there are more and more vegetarians and vegans these days), and another choice of obtainable fish served with a healthy side.

Wedding Desserts

Try as we might to avoid them, many of us find ourselves waiting around for dessert. Instead of presenting your guests with a real temptation, lay out a beautiful fruit buffet with fresh seasonable fruit. Other ideas include sorbet made with real fruit, angel cake topped with strawberries, and fruit soup.

Creating your wedding menu based on healthy, environmentally friendly, and nutritious choices will supply you with the great feeling that you are providing your guests with the best of the best. It’s not just about tasting good and looking good, but about actually being good for you as well.
