As far back as he can remember, Bez Ambar always wanted to be an artist. When he was old enough, he moved to London to study painting and sculpture. But Bez found his true calling when he started working with jewelry. Using gold as his canvas and diamonds as his paint, the young artist applied his artistic training and breathed fresh air into a dowdy industry.

His first major innovation was a square-shaped diamond with intricate faceting that would come to be known as the Princess cut. Bez Ambar developed the stone to rival the round brilliant cut, which was nearly ubiquitous in the late 1970s.

The artist came to America in 1980 to market his new creation and decided to stay. He founded Ambar Diamonds and started designing his own line of jewelry around the Princess cut. The collection was called Quadrillion and it would become one of the most celebrated and influential jewelry lines of the 21st century. One of the rings from the collection received the coveted DeBeers Award for its metal and diamond design.

But Bez wasn't about to rest on his laurels. He began experimenting with his new Princess cut and made a simple, yet transformative discovery. He realized that the main advantage a square-shaped stone had over a round one is that it could be set flush, one against the other. With the proper setting design, these stones could create an illusion of continuity and fluidity.

After much hard work, Bez Ambar created a prongless jewelry setting that he called the 'invisible setting.' The new design encouraged couples everywhere to consider Princess cut stones, instead of round ones.

But Bez did not have a problem with the round brilliant cut. In fact, round diamonds were the focus of his very next project. After he had perfected the invisible setting for square stones, he created one for round ones that he named 'Boundless.' The design has been shown to increase the brilliance of any round diamond.

With his unmatched artistic intuition, Bez Ambar sensed that a new trend was about to break. He launched his 'Pave' collection in 1999. All of the jewelry in this collection includes hundreds, sometimes thousands of tiny diamonds. The purpose of these small stones is to increase the brilliance, fire and scintillation of each piece. In order to accomplish this, Bez had to perfect a new setting technique called 'Micro-pave,' in which each tiny stone is hand set with the help of a microscope.

Bez Ambar was also one of the first major designers to feature colored diamonds in his collections. He customarily uses pink, yellow and black diamonds to achieve a sleeker, more modern look. Bez also uses many different shades of gold, from white to yellow to black and pairs them with his polychromatic stones. This helps him create truly stunning, one-of-a-kind artistic ornaments.
