Most artists compromise. It is a fact of life. They find and an audience and create work that pleases them. Diamond cutters and polishers were considered craftsmen when they formed their first guild in 1375. The guild established standards that are still in place today. Of particular concern was the effect cut quality had on price. A diamond that is cut to perfection typically requires a lot more cutting than one that is simply well-shaped, which results in a smaller stone. And since the value of diamonds is determined in large part by their weight, most designers are reluctant to cut them correctly. Henri Daussi Loots was the rare exception.
As an apprentice in the Antwerp diamond district in Belgium, where 80 percent of the world's rough diamonds are cut, Henri Daussi learned what it took to create a superior stone. Like any natural material, the finished product depends entirely on how it is shaped, cut or sculpted. But diamonds are particularly tricky. They are prized for their ability to reflect light (brilliance), which is based in no small part on how they are cut. A well-cut stone will sparkle, but an incompetently cut one will not.
When he founded his company over fifty years ago, Henri Daussi swore that he would never sacrifice cut quality for carat weight. His experienced artisans were given the freedom they needed to maximize the beauty and brilliance of each stone. They did not have to worry about the bottom line. They simply cut the stones according to their own unique character.
Henri Daussi is widely regarded as one of the best diamond cutters in all of Europe. Though the torch has been passed to a new generation, his descends adhere to the same standards of excellence in craftsmanship and design that were set down by the master. It all begins with the stones.
Each Henri Daussi diamond is sourced directly from the mines. A certified gemologist personally hand-picks the stones he believes are best. The diamonds are then turned over to the cutters who examine them for imperfections. Using the latest computer software and equipment along with old-world tools and techniques, they must cut each stone perfectly in order to bring out its inner beauty and increase its brilliance.
Cutting a stone correctly can increase its color grade, clarity and sparkle. All Henri Daussi diamonds are cut and polished to their full potential by master artisans. They are also purchased through legitimate sources; in other words, they are conflict-free!
