Michael Bogosian was a teenager when he came to America from Istanbul, Turkey. He had exactly 75 dollars in his pocket and did not speak a lick of English. But like millions of immigrants, he knew he could make it if he worked hard. It also didn’t hurt that he had a trade.
By the time he was 10, Michael B was working as a full-time apprentice in one of the finest jewelry houses in his home town. When he completed his apprenticeship at the age of 16, he was already a master jeweler. Michael B had learned every aspect of his trade, from diamond selection and setting to metalwork. He set out for America with an impressive array of skills and a tireless work ethic.
Michael B. began to ply his trade shortly after he arrived in Studio City, California. He quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest jewelers in the area. A few years later, he opened his first jewelry store, which he named after his first son, Matthew. Michael B was just twenty-two years old at the time, but he already had one of the hottest jewelry boutiques in all of Los Angeles.
As the designer himself admits, timing was everything. Michael B. was one of the few master jewelers who worked with platinum and only platinum. At time, everyone was in love with gold. But Michael B saw things differently. He believed that platinum was superior to gold in almost every way. Not only was it much stronger and rarer, it was also easier to work with.
It took a few years, but the public finally came around to his line of thinking. By the 1990s, platinum was once again one of the most popular precious metals on the planet. Michael B and a handful of others are generally credited with its revival.
The Michael B. Difference
Michal B engagement rings are highly customizable and can be altered to fit each bride’s unique style and taste. They are entirely handmade by experienced artisans in the designer’s studio. Each ring is engraved with its maker’s initial, much like an artist would sign a painting. The hallmark also represents a promise that the master jeweler has examined the work and found it perfect in every way.
Michael B. Diamonds
Couples can take comfort in the fact that all of the diamonds Michael B uses in his rings originate from ethical sources. He never buys stones that were involved in funding violence or war, in other words, they are conflict-free. All of his diamonds are mined in Russia and have a color grade of F and a clarity level of VVS 1 to VVS 2. They are the finest stones that are used in semi-mounts.
Michael B Platinum
Platinum is typically more expensive that gold when used in jewelry. Not because platinum is pricier than the yellow stuff, but because more platinum is used in each piece. When you buy a Michael B. platinum engagement ring, you get a higher percentage of the precious metal compared to gold. A platinum ring from the designer contains 90 percent platinum. In comparison, an 18k white gold ring contains just 75 percent gold.
