- Scott Kay-33R310
Scott Kay made a name for himself in the early 90's as an ambitious young designer who spearheaded the platinum revival. A graduate of the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology, the precocious master jeweler fell in love with the underappreciated precious metal. At the time, gold was the only metal designers would work with, which put him at odds with his contemporaries. But even so, Scott Kay soldiered on and founded his own company in 1984 using platinum as his metal of choice.
By the time grunge music hit the mainstream, platinum had become a popular ornamental metal. The market had changed, due in no small part to the efforts of Scott Kay. His signature platinum collections became wildly popular with couples who preferred a more durable, less showy metal than gold. Scott Kay rings fit the bill. The jewelry industry would never be the same.
Platinum is presently one of the most popular metals for both men and women. The girls appreciate its beauty and understated elegance and the guys like the fact that it is tough and can be worn on a daily basis, even if they work with their hands. Scott Kay rings feature the finest platinum in their settings and bands. Scott Kay engagement rings use 95 percent pure platinum with a ruthenium alloy that is added for strength.
Though platinum will forever be the material the made the designer famous, Scott Kay engagement rings are also prized for their superior stones. All side stones that are used in Scott Kay engagement rings are G (near colorless) in color grade and VS (very slightly included) in clarity grade range. They are also carefully inspected for proportion and cut to ensure that they match each setting perfectly.
But Scott Kay is not just for the girls. In recent years, the designer has branched out and he now offers an impressive collection of Scott Kay rings for the guys. Unlike most of his competitors, he designs rings in a variety of materials, not all of them precious metals. Yes, there is gold and platinum, of course, but Scott Kay rings are also offered in palladium and now cobalt. Both options are attractive, durable and low-cost alternatives to the precious metals. Scott Kay rings for men are also offered in a variety of styles. At present, the designer features nine distinct wedding band collections for guys on his official website, a number that is virtually unheard of in the industry.
